Katya began her career as an intern at British Vogue, went to attend international fashion weeks long before she was officially invited, worked her way up to become a writer for L'Officiel, Elle and Vogue Russia, earning herself a status of an international fashion expert before setting up her own business.
She started sewing for her Barbie at the age of 7 and continued creating clothes for herself from age 9, receiving numerous compliments from people in the street, whose admiration and comments later influenced her to become a fashion designer.
Katya moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2010 to work at Chalhoub Group at the marketing department of Kenzo. Inspired and empowered by the city, Katya Kovtunovich brand was officially founded in Dubai in 2012.
One of the signature features of the brand became Katya's work with traditional bedouin textile "Sadu", which in Katya's hands turned from upholstery material into high fashion fabric.
In 2015 Katya's work with Sadu was recognized by UAE Government and Expo2020 committee she was invited to be a part of official delegation representing UAE at Expo Milano 2015.
Born in a modest means family on the Russian island of Sakhalin, near Japan, and graduated from St. Petersburg State University in Linguistics, Katya speaks 5 languages and is a self-made citizen of the world, businesswoman and entrepreneur.
